Valentine's Goodies

Since Lauren emailed me today wanting to know what Valentine's day goodies I made, I had to post this just for her. (As you can see I sometimes need a little push to motivate me to update my blog.)

I decided a few months ago that I wanted to make bread in a can for my coworkers. I started saving tomato sauce cans and talked to my Mom about my idea. She started the search for a delicious bread recipe. She ended her search at Strawberry Bread (similar to banana bread.) She tried several different recipes and and perfected it for me.
After 5 batches (1 was a halfway disaster) I ended with 23 cans, a platter for my students and 1 loaf for Chris.

I baked the bread in the cans and then glued the paper around the outside after they cooled.
Then I put them in clear party bags and tied it up with ribbon. They looked so cute and my coworkers LOVED them. A couple of them didn't even wait for me to leave the office before they opened the bag and dug in.

The best part about these goodies is all I paid for was the ingredients. I saved the cans and I had the paper from the $1 bin at Target from last year.

I couldn't forget about Chris and his group of Dental school buddies. Since there are too many of them to do individual gifts I just made them cupcakes. They too were strawberry and were topped with strawberry butter cream frosting.

All together I would say my goodies were a huge success. I'm going to have a lot to live up to next year. I better start thinking of a good idea now!

I am so lucky to be married to you. If this is what being a guinea pig is like in Cheryl's Kitchen, bring on the experiments! They're so tasty.
