Cake Decorating 101

For the last few weeks I have been taking a cake decorating class through West LA City College. Every Monday night I head out with my tools and bowl of frosting for an evening of fun learning. Chris loves Monday's now. No, not because I'm out of the Apartment, but because every Monday night I come home with a beautiful cake that we get to eat. For the sake of our waist lines, I have also taken the cakes to work with me to share the love (and the calories) with my coworkers,

Although I am still far from being a cake decorator, I'd say with only 2 classes under my belt, I'm pretty good. Here are my two cakes so far.

The first week we didn't use color. The teacher wanted us to spend more time practicing off the cake then worrying about coloring our frosting. I still think my cake is cute!


Last week we actually had time to color our frosting. Although, I can see all my little mistakes, I feel like I'm making great progress. Hopefully I should be able to make some pretty cool cakes when my class finishes in April.
