Sloppy Joes

Chris and I enjoy Sloppy Joes! I don't mean open a can and slop it on bread sloppy joes, but good 'ol homemade hamburger (or ground turkey) goodness.

One of the first cook books my Mom bought me seems to have the recipe for EVERYTHING. I love the Sloppy Joe recipe and made it Thursday night for dinner. I also made my own french fries, this time. They tasted great and were totally guilt free. I made them with Olive oil (very healthy) and baked them not fried.

Better Homes and Gardens Cook Book
Sloppy Joes

1lb ground beef (I use ground Turkey)
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 green bell pepper
1 can tomato sauce (they say use 8oz, but I used 15oz I think the turkey is a little dry)
1 1/2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp garlic salt
dash hot sauce
6 rolls or hamburger buns (I used left over french bread and toasted it)

In a large skillet cook ground meat, onion and pepper until meat is brown and veggies are tender. Drain off fat. Stir in tomato sauce, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt and hot sauce. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 5 minutes. Serve on rolls.

Guilt free French Fries

2 baking potatoes
olive oil
garlic powder
salt

Cut potatoes into strips. Soak the potatoes strips in water for 15 minutes (it removes the starch.) Remove potatoes and pat dry. Pour olive oil over potatoes and stir until all are coated. Sprinkle on garlic powder and salt. On a lined baking sheet spread fries in a single layer. Bake at 400 degrees until desired crispness. (Mine baked about 30 minutes) I love crispy French Fries, YUM!!!!
